November 15, 2011, Huffington Post - Los Angeles criminal attorney Steve Cron offers his legal opinion about an Illinois man who was convicted of murder and won a retrial on the basis that the 30-year-sentence he is currently serving is not hrash enough. Typically, a convicted murderer in Illinois faces between 20 and 60 years in prison, with a 15 year enhancement in cases involving a firearm. That means that Deanda should have received a minimum 35-year deal and thus the plea deal he accepted is void. Steve Cron stated "it's much harder to try a case 10 years later. The prosecution may be thinking they are going to have a tough time now, as they go back and start from scratch to recreate the case." Steve belives the big question is "why now?" Steve said "it makes you wonder whether the defendant found new evidence or if a witness is no longer available." Steve believes the defendant is rolling the dice by reopening the case.

October 3, 2011, Fox News - One of the big questions that remained unanswered is when exactly did Michael Jackson die? Los Angeles criminal defense attorney Steve Cron was asked to provide his expert legal opinion. Mr. Cron replied "We don't know. There is no way of telling. We don't know how long the propofol was in his system. If he was dead on arrival or dead at the hospital."

February 5, 2011, Fox News - Attorney Steve Cron comments about Lindsay Lohan facing prison time if she is convicted of stealing a $2,500 necklace from a Venice jewelry store. Mr. Cron said she may very well be prosecuted over the incident, although it is unlikely she would be sentenced to a full three years. He stated: "There is a likelihood. It seems to me that she got caught stealing that necklace and it appears that somebody talked her into returning it a week later and had someone drop it off but it was too little too late. She had already stolen it, so I think she will get prosecuted. It's unlikely that she is going to get 3 years in state prison because although she's screwed up repeatedly on probation, but she certainly can get a lot more time in county jail. Judge Fox could give her 6 months for violating probation in Beverly Hills and another judge who hears the case on grand theft could decide to send her for more time in county jail or he could send her to state prison. It's more likely that she is going to go to an extended period in county jail. It wouldn't be 30 or 60 days, it's going to be a substantially longer sentence than that."

January 25, 2011, Associated Press - Los Angeles criminal defense attorney Steve Cron shares his legal expertise after Dr. Conrad Murray pleaded not guilty to charges of involuntary manslughter in Michael Jackson's death in 2009. A coroner testified that Mr. Jackson died of a propofol overdose in combination with other drugs. Dr. Murray had admitted administering the drug after other failed attempts to get him to slepp with other drugs. Murray said he left the room for two minutes then returned to find Mr. Jackson not breathing. He delayed calling 911 for about 25 minutes while trying to revive him. In this Associated Press article, Mr. Cron says: "If I were advising him, I would be talking to the district attorney to see what they would be willing to accept. An offer of probation with community service and temporary suspension of Murray's medical license would be worth considering if it were proposed. I think there's a good chance he's going to go down on this, If they go to trial, they've got a lot of explaining to do."

Gabrielle Giffords in a rampage that killed six people and would 13 others. Mr. Cron believes there is a chance the suspect might never see the inside of a prison cell due to an insanity defense. Steve says "a defense lawyer is going to point to his history, they'll say the acts he is accused of committing would have obviously been done by someone who is insane. This trail of rambling, half-crazed comments he supposedly left on Internet websites, and the fact that he got kicked out of school for disruptive behavior, will be brought up in court. A defense lawyer is going to look at it and say this is a troubled and disoriented guy who doesn't know what he is doing."

January 3, 2011, Westlaw News & Insight - LA criminal attorney Steve Cron gives his legal opinion on Michael Jackson's doctor facing involuntary manslaughter criminal charges. Dr. Conrad Murray was Jackson's physician in 2009 when he died from a fatal overdose of a powerful drug used for sleeping. Murray has admitted injecting Jackson with the powerful anesthetic propofol, which has been determined to be the key factor in his death. Mr. Cron said Murray's lawyers may pursue a different defense if the case does go beyond the preliminary phase. If that occurs, Cron said testimony of medical experts will be key given that Murray was alone with Jackson in his last waking hours. "It's going to be a case of dueling experts. Whose expert is more credible and why," he said.

December 23, 2010, Associated Press - Los Angeles criminal defense attorney Steve Cron comments on Lindsay Lohan's misdemeanor battery charges on an employee at the Betty Ford Clinic. Mr. Cron said the thought the Betty Ford employee clearly violated federal laws, and may have actually aided Lohan from being punished by a Los Angeles judge overseeing her probation for an old drunk driving case.
