A 16-year-old charged with murder during a fight in a Huntington Beach, California park will be tried as an adult, according to the Orange County district attorney's office.
Jesse Shockey, of Garden Grove, is charged with one felony count of murder and a sentencing enhancement for the use of a deadly weapon. If he is convicted of this
violent crime, he would face a maximum sentence of 26 years to life in a California state prison.
He is being held on $1-million bail and is scheduled for arraignment January 17, 2012, at the Central Justice Center in Santa Ana. This information was obtained from the Huntington Beach Independent.
Shockey is accused of getting into an argument in Lark View Park with the friends of Dylan Austin about two weeks before the killing. The teenager is accused of returning to the park December 21 with his friends, physically fighting with Austin, 19, and stabbing him fatally in the chest.
An arrest for murder or homicide is perhaps the most significant and serious crime anyone can be charged with. Whether the act was deliberate or an act of self-defense, the prosecutor's will aggressively pursue a conviction. Therefore, a defendants life is literally on the line.
If you or a memebr of your family is currently facing an accusation of murder, you will need to immediately contact a competent criminal defense attorney.
